I love Spain for many different reasons. One. Tapas might be the greatest food group of all time. Two. Mi gente! The Spanish are some of the greatest, most laid-back as well as passionate people, ever. Three. Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Spain are so individually diverse and very unique– its almost like visiting three or four countries in one. Then there’s Flamenco. Running of the bulls. 3 o’clock siestas. Turquoise beaches. Moorish architecture. But, if there’s one thing I didn’t realize about Spain, is that it has some of the most affordable & charming hotels. Here to present 5 of our favorites!
5. Best Breakfast- Mac Hotels Benalmadena
Breakfast in Spain is usually quite simple: a café, some toasted bread drizzled with olive oil, cheese or a fresh pastry. But the breakfast at the Mac Hotel (https://www.mac-hotels.com/mac-puerto-marina-benalmadena/) is this plus HUGE stations of meats, cheeses, a variety of tasty breads, English breakfasts, American breakfasts, (not omitting the churros & chocolate, which is another important Spanish food group). It’s quite literally a feast for your eyes.
4. Best Location- Vincci Capitol Hotel Madrid
While we realize Madrid is outside the region of Andalucía, it is most often seen as the gateway city into Spain’s southern coast. Especially if you have only one day in Madrid, staying in a centrally located hotel will really elevate your entire Spain experience. Vincci Capitol Hotel (https://www.vinccicapitol.com/) makes its mark by being placed in the heart of Madrid, exactly .3 miles from city centre without the high price tag. Plaza de Espana is 5 minutes away, while Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace are both roughly a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Get a drink upstairs at their rooftop terrace at sunset–the views are not to be missed!
3. Best Rooftop Pool- MB Boutique Hotel Nerja
Nerja, situated along Costa del Sol is well known for its seafront promenade, Balcón de Europa and has more than enough activities to keep you busy in this small little municipality. On the weekends you can join local Andalusians in hiking down the Chillar River, explore Nerja’s well-known caves, or check out the stunning Aqueduct on your way to the turquoise beaches of Maro. Most impressively, you’ll find MB Boutique Hotel within close distance of all these attractions. Recently renovated, MB Boutique Hotel (https://www.mbboutiquehotel.es/en/) is all about modern luxuries like touch screen showers and faucets. After all the activities, the South Beach-esque private rooftop with sunbeds and 2 Jacuzzi tubs overlooking the Sierras de Tejeda mountainside will be calling your name and trust us—you’ll never want to leave!
2. Best Value- Palacio Cabrera Lillo Granada
If you’re a first time traveler to Granada, you’ll most likely be visiting the great Alhambra Palace on your stay. We gotta say that the impressive interiors and the remarkable staff of the Palacio Cabrera- Lillo (http://palaciocabreralillo.com/) almost make you feel as if you’re staying in the real thing. Not only is the building an actual former palace from the XIX century, every room is equipped with a functional kitchenette for cooking or you can opt to go to some of the best tapas bars in all of Granada just minutes away. The Alhambra is a very comfortable 1 kilometer walk from the hotel, and you’ll love this amazing location of the palacio.
1. Most Instagram-worthy – Miller’s of Frigiliana
Can’t express how much I love the village of Frigiliana. The cobbled streets and white-washed village of Frigiliana really make it the most beautiful Andalusian village in all of Spain (it did win it, by the way). Miller’s (https://www.millershotels.com/frigiliana-home), the bed & breakfast of your dreams, will make you take out your phone and Instagram every corner. Every decorative detail is impeccably done, from the walkway entrance, to each of the seven rooms available to stay. A private rooftop terrace and an “honest bar” at your disposal offers privacy, relaxation and may I add, the best G&T we have ever had!!
